High Elf Port Board : ハイエルフの港ボード PART 4by David on 2013-06-12 (Wed) 8:49AM
Work continues on the port board, with the tedious task of stamping brick outlines in the foam of the docks. Phew! Plus a couple of new terrain items were delivered from Germany - a couple of ornamental foot bridges and a small curved staircase. But the majority of the work this week has been on The Bloody Slayer, which is now finished!
The awesome sails came with the kit, thankfully! They are made out of hard plastic, and I simply sprayed them very carefully with light grey from a low angle, and then with white from a very high angle. Then I painted on a skull and cross motif on to the main sail - after all, what Empire ship would be complete without skulls, eh?
The rigging and ropes were all done one by one over several hours last weekend. It was quite painstaking work, adding slipknots one by one, but the finished effect is really convincing and adds a great sense of realism. I moved a few of the ropes slightly, to allow two units of 20 to be placed on movement trays on the lower and upper decks. Should be fun!
The kit also came with a few cool extras - this small rowing boat will be used elsewhere on the board. The model has 6 small swivel guns (pistols?) mounted along the side rails, which I painted in a very impractical shining brass colour! The flags were added last of all, and were simply printed straight from the internet onto label sheets and bent into shape.
Right, I'm off to pressgang me some sailors...
